My 2025 Prospa Local Business Hero nomination
My nomination is Taylor Hamilton, owner of Toastie Lords in Picton. Taylor and her crew have built up a toasted sandwich business from scratch and made it very successful and famous not only in Marlborough but with overseas cruise ship customers. Not many businesses survive without diversification, but Toastie Lords have. The toasted sandwiches are delicious, and the friendly service keeps my friends and I going back often.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
