My 2022 Prospa Local Business Hero nomination
My nomination is for a business on the main street of my community Hikurangi, called Or Near Offer. It is a fascinating little shop offering all sorts of second-hand goods and clothing. It is very welcoming mainly due to the wonderfully warm and friendly owner Tracey Haika. Tracey is always welcoming and happy to just have a chat, without in any way treating her customers as numbers as is so rife nowadays. She always offers my dog a drink of water and makes me and others, welcome. She is really enhancing the community spirit of Hikurangi with her beautifully creative, artistic and colorful shop exterior; she shows a truly entrepreneurial spirit. She is fully involved with our community - and in short an inspiration to other young Maori to believe that anything is possible.

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
