Shalane Hopkins

As an artist, I am passionate about creating OOAK pieces that reflect the beauty of each person's individuality. My choice of working with seed beads has been greatly influenced by growing up in Canada and being surrounded by the work of the Native American bead artists that live there. I love the challenge that seed beads present - that such a small medium can be overwhelming in its simple complexity.

In recent years, New Zealand has begun to influence my art as well and I have started to branch away from simply creating jewellery to create jewellery. I aim to find new ways to bring a modern take to such an old artform, while pulling in elements experienced in both Canadian and New Zealand cultures.

2016 will be a year to explore how I can continue to challenge my work with beadweaving and I am thoroughly excited as to where it will take me. I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I will!

Check out my website or social media accounts for further details on where to find my work, new pieces made or insights to what goes on in my studio. Feel free to send me a message if you have a question, want to commission your own unique piece or would like to book a workshop.
