Cafes
The Odyssey café will be run as a social enterprise. Profits from the operation of the café and venue hire will be invested in a training and development programme that will equip youth with the skills and confidence to gain employment or progress to further education. More specifically, the programme will support youth to become work ready (specific technical skills relating to the job) and job ready (attributes such as being on time, having a positive attitude). It will be designed to enhance a positive sense of self, a sense of purpose, problem solving skills, independence, leadership capacity, self-confidence and self-esteem.
Based on research in youth resiliency, this intervention will also lead to a reduction in harmful substance use by youth participating in the programme.
The programme will be available to selected Odyssey youth clients initially, expanding to vulnerable or ‘at risk’ local youth as the programme grows.
