Karetu Downs is a 2000ha hill country property in the Waipara gorge. We run around 5000 Romney sheep and 100 angus cattle. The Karetu downs farm cottage is a 4 bedroom house and sleeps up to 8 people. It has a large garden and an adjoining paddock. Horse riders can bring their horses and ride over the property.
The Karetu homestead has 2 boutique guest rooms the Louisa suite and the Musterers studio apartment.. Both are beautifully decorated each with garden views. For a relaxing and peaceful country retreat Karetu is perfect.
On a busy farm there's always things happening. You can watch the sheep dogs working in the yards or as they muster the sheep, watch sheep shearing demonstrations, experience the 4 wheel drive safari tour of the hill country, bottle feed pet lambs or grain feed the pet sheep. Meet the kune kune pigs Wilbur and Ginger and our resident donkey Barney. You can even take a river walk to the round boulders in the gorge for a swim or try your luck at fishing.
