About Fountain City Montessori Brooklyn (Pre-School)

Fountain City Montessori utilises an educational system that was founded by Dr Maria Montessori. It has now been adopted worldwide, but is only in it's infancy in New Zealand. At FCM, we educate children in literacy, science, maths, geography, sensorial (activities used to sense things) and how to do real 'practical life' activities in order to develop independence to grow into competent, confident little people. It all starts with allowing them to do simple things like putting on their own hat and shoes, cutting their own fruit and serving their own morning tea when they are hungry. Respect for all things and courtesy are important parts of our pre-school. We follow the interests of the child, in a peaceful, calm environment without visual clutter, and with real grass, gardens and trees, which we learn to nurture as part of our curriculum.
