Eastbay Osteo

Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine that was developed in 1874 by an American physician-surgeon Andrew Taylor Still.

With a holistic approach to health conditions, osteopathy includes all aspects of clinical interaction including case history, examination, treatment and prevention strategies. While osteopaths aim to reduce pain and discomfort, they also look further to point out other elements that may have been contributing to a patient’s current symptoms. These elements are discussed with the patients, offering useful strategies to prevent future injuries.

Osteopaths use a wide range of techniques for treatment based on the condition and the patient’s goals. These techniques can include massage, articulation, manipulation and exercise plans.
What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a major component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has been used for many years. During an acupuncture treatment session, fine needles are inserted in different parts of the body known as the acupuncture points where patients may feel an “ache” and/or a “dull” sensation, known as “De Qi”.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, each acupuncture point is within a specific meridian that can be used to facilitate healing.

In Western Acupuncture (WA), the same acupuncture points and meridians are used; however, its rationale is based on neurophysiology and human body anatomy. The acupuncture points may be used to achieve an increase in local blood flow and/or affect the nervous system for analgesic effects.

Osteopathy and acupuncture are safe and effective treatments for acute spinal, back pain, disc, trapped nerves, muscle spasms and musculoskeletal pain. Eastbay Osteo’s team are trained and registered osteopaths and take pride in providing patients with gentle and highly effective treatments that attends to both the cause of the disease and presenting symptoms.
