BAKER, John Grant

Born March 15, 1938. John sadly and suddenly departed this world on 26th December 2022 at his home surrounded by his grandchildren, in Matakana, aged 84 years. Survived by his son Callum, daughter Fiona, and beloved grandchildren Jack, Grace, Sasha, Willy, and his mate Hoover. Matakana and Warkworth communities, loved dearly by his wide network of friends. John’s creation of the Matakana Country Park will be his living memory with his dreams of developing a place for all families to bring their children to grow up and enjoy – ‘‘Joy to the People’’ was John’s favourite slogan. A very special Tane Mahuta (giant kauri tree – ‘‘God of the Forest’’ has fallen. John’s wishes to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at 2.00pm in St Andrew’s Chapel and then at The Stables Restaurant located within the Matakana Country Park, 1151 Leigh Road, Matakana, in time for ‘Happy Hour’.
