Dear Police Commissioner Mike Bush 

This is a petition in opposition to the Eagle helicopter 24/7 surveillance of the Christchurch skies. Proposing it be used only when called upon by authorities in appropriate circumstances after the 24/7 trail period ending March 20th!

24/7 use of the Eagle helicopter being trialed in the skies of Christchurch until the 20th of March is a disruption of the peace. The noise pollution produced by the constant and persistent presence of the eagle air craft is unacceptable despite its surveillance benefits.

The perpetual noise that the air craft generates induces anxiety and at night disrupts the sleep of the general public which effects the quality of civilians sleep and lives in general.

People have been expressing their disapproval of 24/7 surveillance through pointing lasers at the air craft and thousands of social media posts expressing their anxiety regarding its constant presence in our skies. With current and increasing numbers of anxiety and mental health issues in New Zealand a realistic analysis of the effects this helicopter patrolling our skies 24/7 needs to be taken into account.

Current issues regarding climate change and carbon emission awareness are also another issue at hand here. The Eagle patrolling 24/7 is widely additional pollution  which parallels the noise pollution issue.

The matters at hand here are mental health and pollution awareness both pressing current world issues which need to be taken into account.

For example: the Westpac Rescue helicopter does wonderful things saving peoples lives but it does not fly around 24/7 looking for injured people, this is a waste of resources. Its is equally effective being on call 24/7 and it is deployed when needed to save lives.

This petition is to oppose the use of the Eagle helicopter 24/7 in the skies of Christchurch and proposes it be used at appropriate times when needed similar to the Westpac Rescue helicopter!

This petition is to represent the public who disapprove of 24/7 surveillance and presence of the Eagle in the skies. People who believe it can be used to benefit the public without creating excessive pollution. Also regarding all other aspects not mentioned here which are raised due to the persistent air craft presence in the skies of Christchurch.
