Why this petition matters

Started by Kelly Mahon

From 12th November 2023, Te Atatu Peninsula Residents will lose the 132X buses and eventually also the 132 buses as part of the new West Auckland Bus Network overhaul. This will mean that EVERY trip into the city will require us to catch a local bus and then catch a motorway bus to get into the city. This will also apply to any trip from the city to the Peninsula. It is my feeling that we will be doubly affected by this change due to our lack of alternative/ proximity to any train services.

Every morning, Monday to Friday, our 132X buses are full as they are popular and provide a convenient way for Peninsula residents to commute into the city. Auckland Transport want to change all that. They originally wanted to take away both our 132X and 132 buses, being replaced with local 13 & 135 local buses. These local buses will travel around the Peninsula and terminate at the Te Atatu Interchange. Commuters will then need to catch a WX1,11T or 11W motorway bus into the city.

After consultation, Te Atatu Peninsula residents expressed concern that by the time these motorway buses had started with passengers at Westgate, stopped to pick up passengers at the Lincoln Road Interchange and then travelled to the Te Atatu Interchange, that the buses would be full and would leave passengers at Te Atatu behind. AT have now advised that to combat this, they will increase the frequency of the 11T & 11W buses from every 15 minutes to every 10 minutes, FOR 2 HOURS DURING WEEKDAY PEAK TIMES ONLY. They have also said that they will keep the 132 but it will only run on WEEKDAYS, EVERY 30 MINUTES TOWARDS THE CITY CENTRE BETWEEN 6:30AM AND 8:10AM AND FROM THE CITY CENTRE BETWEEN 4:15PM AND 5:45PM.The 132 will also eventually be removed once double decker buses are introduced into this motorway bus network.

My proposal is to forget about increasing the frequency of the 11T & 11W buses and use those buses to instead retain our 132X and possibly even our 132 buses. I do not see much point in removing the services that are currently providing a convenient and efficient transport option only to increase a motorway service that I do not believe will serve residents of Te Atatu Peninsula well at all.

If you agree with what is summarised in this petition and do not want to lose the 132X and 132, please sign this petition as soon as possible so it can be used to support our concerns and for them to be raised with Auckland Transport.
