Planning ahead - advice for seniors and families

Bev from Third Age Solutions Ltd

Planning ahead for the latter stages of your life is critical for ensuring what’s important to you can be put in place if you ever end up unable to make your own decisions due to illness or injury.

To get you started, it is recommended all adults create an:

Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) for: 1) your property and 2) personal care and welfare. An EPA is a legal document to protect you and your assets, by appointing people you trust to be your attorney/s and make decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do this.

Advance Care Plan (ACP) so that the important people in your life and your GP know what care you would want or not want during the final stages of your life. Completing this plan makes it easier for those caring for you, particularly if you are unable to communicate your wishes to them.

Contact Third Age Solutions if you need assistance to get these plans in place for you or your loved one. Alternatively, you can speak with your lawyer about EPAs and your health team about an ACP.
