Finally illegal Beach Driving Enforced
I want to applaud and congratulate Kapiti senior sergeant Chanel Chapman for having a police patrol of Paraparaumu Beach and issuing the prescribed fine of $750 to an offender caught driving on the beach. Many of us have been upset for a very long time by these selfish and lazy people who show no respect for the law, other beach-goers and our very delicate coastal environment. I like others have been frustrated by the lack of action to address the issue despite engaging with the council and many reports to police.
Enforcement and publicising the fines is one way to bring it home to these offenders that their illegal behaviour is not tolerated and has consequences for them not just everyone else and the environment.
I look forward to more enforcement as summer comes the volume of offenders increases dramatically, we need to change behaviour by affecting the offender. The education strategy for 10 years has had zero impact.
