ZEBRA CROSSINGS

Tina from Thames

i am very saddened about the loss of an elderly man while crossing the road in Queens Street on Thursday, where he was hit by a car and killed. Why is it there is only one crossing in all of Queen Street up by the shopping Mall only? Why is there no crossing up by Richmond Villas as well and there certainly is no pavement for the elderly to walk on safely up to the mall?.. Instead they have to cross the road which as we have sadly become aware of is very dangerous as cars drive along Queen Street at high speeds. What is the Mayor and council doing absolutely nothing. The death of this elderly man could have been avoided if there was a crossing nearer Richmond Villas. Its about time the council or NZTA did something about this before we end up with more people loosing their lives. The number of times I have driven along there with people trying to cross the road because there is no zebra crossing and they certainly don't want to walk to the end of the street just to use the crossing.
