My Resene Upcycling Award entry

Maree from Pyes Pa

My daughter bought this old bench to do up and then went flatting leaving it in our garage. Two years later I removed the old wire base, replaced it with recycled wooden slats. Re-used the foam cushions from a long-gone couch. Years earlier I'd bought an IKEA white couch cover (what was I thinking?!) and it didn't fit and I never returned it. Been a fab source of good strength fabric. Made all the cushions. Daughter is sporty so instead of florals I sewed together strips of primary colours for the back cushions but had to make two of the colours. Using masking tape I painted Resene orange (Adrenalin) and green (Half Limerick) panels – mixed with some acrylic artist paint medium - perfect for fabric! Finally rubbed in a Resene Wood Oil, leftover from a deck project. Still have one thing to add – Dad's favourite saying to her: 'Keep your eye on the ball!' engraved on a brass plaque.
