Rare duck visits Invercargill

A Northern Pintail duck has unexpectedly arrived in the New River Estuary in Invercargill.

Department of Conservation ranger Sean Jacques, a birdwatcher in his spare time, noticed the Pintail on an impromptu visit to the estuary at the weekend.

“This is a really rare bird down here ... I was extremely happy to see it,” Jacques said.
