Susan Williams from Frankleigh Park in New Plymouth has nominated Kathryn Shaw as a Nice Neighbour. She says:
'Kathryn and her partner Chris spent all Waitangi day replacing and repairing our dividing fence, they did such an amazing job. Chris also brought me a load of firewood when I ran out in winter for which I was so grateful. If I ever need a hand with any heavy work or lifting, I know I only have to ask and they are there. There have been so many instances over the years where Kathryn's help has been given, too many to name. I wouldn't swap my neighbours for anyone else this is why I am still here after 20 years.'

Know a deserving local? Nominate them for a Nice Neighbour award here.

The Retail Payment System Act was passed in May 2022.
That legislation was particularly popular in Parliament, passing with the support of every party but Act.
Minister Clark said it was “unfair that retailers, especially small retailers, have been constantly stung with high fees for offering services they need to survive”.

Merchant service fees are the fees paid by retailers to accept credit cards and some debit card payments.
Many shops choose to pass this fee on to consumers for using credit cards or payWave, resulting in higher prices.
It is hoped that this practice will end, or the passed-on fees will be lower, thanks to the legislation.
The cap on credit interchange fees is set at 0.8 per cent, in line with fees charged in Australia.
The legislation also caps fees for online debit transactions at 0.6 per cent.

Have you read Auck CC's LTP (long term plan)? Do you want to lose our Stadium?

It's a massive read! I've spent over 2 hours in 2 separate sessions, and still not completed.
BUT, the most pressing thing IMO is the loss of our Stadium.
Councillor John Watson has explained the situation:
" a proposal that could involve the demolition of North Harbour Stadium and the sale of the land. That proposal is being advanced by Tataki Auckland Unlimited (the council CCO which has managed the stadium since 2014).
If adopted this would mean the entire northern region of Auckland will never again have a stadium capable of hosting any major sporting, cultural or music event as occurred regularly under previous management (and this for the fastest growing node in Auckland with a population fast approaching 500,000).
By stark contrast from 1997 -2014 the stadium was managed by the North Harbour Stadium Trust. That Trust was very successful in attracting a wide variety of content to the stadium including All Black and Kiwi rugby league tests, NRL games, Super Rugby games, FIFA matches, an A-League soccer franchise and a whole variety of concerts and cultural events. The Trust also built up a healthy reserve fund to ensure the ongoing maintenance and capital replacement.
Around 2014, however, the Trust was persuaded by council directors that the transfer of the stadium into the new ‘Super City’ CCO would be in the best interests of the stadium going forward.

Since that time, however, the original trustees, along with many in the North Harbour community, have watched in dismay as TAU have not only failed to attract anything like the content that characterised the performance of the previous Trust but have severely compromised the use of the ground with some disastrous operational decisions.
The most graphic example of these failures was the $2.5 million spent in 2019 demolishing a large section of the western half of the ground to accommodate a baseball franchise that subsequently went bust owing money. In so doing TAU effectively removed the ability of North Harbour Stadium to attract major sporting events.
Remarkably no subsequent effort has been made by TAU to reinstate the western half of the ground despite there being a relatively straightforward fix - so now half of the stadium looks like an ordinary suburban ground while the other side retains the look and facilities of a modern stadium, the equal of any in NZ in fact.

Instead of addressing these glaring shortcomings for which they have been solely responsible Tataki Auckland Unlimited are now promoting the demolition of Auckland’s newest stadium, ironically one they themselves trumpeted a few years back as “the country’s finest mid-size community stadium.”

✉️ Clear your letterbox in a timely manner
✉️ Put a hold on your mail delivery if you’re going away
✉️ Provide clear delivery instructions for couriers to leave a package safely hidden or secured within your property
✉️ Install security cameras and/or security camera messaging near your letterbox or front of property
✉️ Where practical, consider click and collect over delivery
✉️ Send parcels to a work address or ensuring you're home when they arrive
✉️ Contact Police (111 for immediate issues or 105 if it is after the fact) if you see people loitering around vehicles or looking into car windows
✉️ Engage in neighbourhood groups so more people can keep an eye out for suspicious activity

These tips are being shared after a 44-year-old woman will appear in Pukekohe District Court on 28 March charged with theft.
An alleged mail thief in the Pukekohe area has hand-delivered herself into Police, following assistance from the community.
Counties Manukau South Senior Sergeant MJ Riddle says Police were aware of locals discussing a mail theft on social media. A report was made to Police at the time in January and had included enough detail including CCTV footage and a vehicle of interest. Following Police enquiries, the woman has brought herself into the Pukekohe Police Station a few days later

“This is a great result for the community and a timely reminder to the public to continue reporting any thefts from letterboxes.”
Senior Sergeant Riddle says
“Our community should be able to receive parcels and mail without concern of interference but unfortunately there are people in our communities who take advantage of opportunities to commit thefts from mail boxes and front porches."

“We encourage anyone who has been the victim of dishonesty offending to report it as soon as possible,” she says."

A group of residents from Ryman Healthcare’s Keith Park Village in Hobsonville are taking action to help primary school students from nearby Scott Point School cross the road safely.

The six residents were horrified to see primary aged children, often on bikes and scooters, hurrying along the pathway which then deceptively continues right over Clark Road next to the village.

Because of the design features, and visibility issues from parked vehicles, there was often little time for children to realise they were crossing a road, and little time for drivers to slow down or stop.
