This has been added to and well-used by generations of young Nelson People.
Last Year, the first item built at the playground, the concrete train was removed after it was damaged and no longer fit for purpose. There was a lot of concern and discussion from the local community over this removal.
Our Lions Club is pleased to advise that we are ready to begin on the replacement train. It will be wooden this time as this is more durable and user-friendly. This will be a joint build with the help of the MenzShed Waimea. The NCC is also on board with approval and assistance.
In order to have Community involvement and ownership in the project it has been suggested that we open a GIVE-A-LITTLE page. This is being organised by the Tahunanui Business & Citizen Assn. National Anzac Day events include the Dawn Service at 6.00am and the National Commemorative Service at 11.00am (both at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park, Wellington), and the Atatürk Memorial Service at 2.30pm in Strathmore, Wellington. The Dawn Service and National Commemorative Service will be broadcast live by TVNZ 1 and RNZ National.
For those wanting to join the Anzac Day parade at the Dawn Service, veterans are asked to assemble on Tasman Street by 5.30am.
The Atatürk Memorial Service in Strathmore will include a wreath-laying ceremony. A shuttle service will be running from Bowes Crescent carpark to the memorial site for anyone who may require assistance accessing the site.
