Parking on the Footpath

Nigel from Rangiora

Today in Woodend we were driving along a quiet street and an elderly lady on her motor scooter was unable to proceed along the footpath due to a car being parked on it and completely blocking her way. There was a grass verge but it was at such an angle she could not use it due to the risk of tipping over. So we stopped and found the owner of the car - unfortunately he was quite indignant about moving his car, with his excuse being that he was on call for the Fire Brigade and needed his car on the street. I get that you want your car on the street to enable a quick response should an emergency occur, but to use that as an excuse for illegal parking and a complete lack of consideration of all others in the neighbourhood is pretty poor.

So a friendly reminder about car parking and parking on footpaths - it is illegal, not to mention potentially dangerous for pedestrians having to go on the road to get around your car.

OK, rant over... :-)
