Cinema owner adds to classic projector collection

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

At 33 years of age Pat Walsh reckons he's New Zealand's youngest cinema owner.

And it's a labour of love at Geraldine Cinema where he is regularly adding to his collection of film memorabilia, including the recent purchase of a 1929 New Zealand-built sound projector.

The cinema buff said he had had an interest in movies and the pictures since the age of 14.

"I am the youngest cinema owner in New Zealand.

"I bought the Regent Cinema in Rangiora when I was 21."

At Rangiora High School he resurrected the school's projector and charged students .20c to watch movies during lunch breaks.

"It would pay for my lunch," he said.
