Hi Ralph Broad here. Great news a long time coming but with a few "fish hooks". As a former building consent manager and a Council planner the media don't always tell the whole story - maybe they were not given the information?
Please make sure you comply with both the District Plan and the Building Code. Sleep outs in particular are likely to be controlled both in number and location/ siting by the District Plan and may in some situations not be permitted. So best check with your local Council before starting work to avoid problems later on.
Have had a few requests from kiwi overseas wanting to get back to New Zealand of which I have been able to help. It is a minefield with paper work to be completed, rules and regulations changing constantly. Anyone needing assistance for their family please give me a call as now is not the time to be dabbling with arrangements online.
