Grass seed dangerous to dogs - Check you dogs feet after a walk.

Laurence from Motueka

On the sea side track from Motueka Quay/Old Wharf road along to “E Quay” this grass is growing in abundance. When the seed head matures it can be caught up in the hide and feet of animals. It slowly works it’s way into the hide. It has a sharp point. It can cause a wound that has to be surgically removed. It can spread by the wind and can end up on the ground where a dog merely walking on it can get it between its toes. We collectively called grasses like that “barley grass” as it slightly resembled the profile. An expert will probably know the correct names etc. I hardly noticed it 4 years ago but has spread alarmingly the last two years. This years crop is the worst and runs continuously along the seaside.

Say goodbye to tyre waste

Tyrewise

About 40% of the 6.5 million tyres Kiwis use every year are recycled, repurposed, or used as tyre-derived fuel. But the rest end up in landfills, stockpiled or dumped.

The good news is now there’s an easy solution to all that tyre waste. It’s called Tyrewise and is New Zealand’s first national tyre recycling scheme.

Tyrewise ensures that tyres in Aotearoa New Zealand are recycled or repurposed properly, saving millions from going to the landfill.

Find out more about the scheme online.
