Chicken Breast from New World

David from Rangiora

Out of interest, I cooked one chicken breast wrapped in foil in a bench top cooker for 45 minutes. The precooked breast weight was 336g. The liquid take off in the wrapped foil was 55g (60ml). 16% of the total weight. Does this mean that liquid is injected into the chicken to increase profit.
I would be interested in any comment.

Are you taking part in Movember?

Kendra Stone Reporter from Northern Outlook

Movember is an opportunity for men to ditch their razors and grow a moustache to raise money and awareness about men's health. The funds raised each year go towards programmes targeted at prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Are you currently taking part in Movember? If so, we'd love to see pics of your 'stache! Share in the comments!

Golden straw nets $2000 prize for Oxford farming couple

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from Northern Outlook

Not quite like meeting Willie Wonka, but for Oxford dairy farmers Mike and Nicola Smith it was a moment to celebrate when they found a golden straw in their Artificial Insemination bank from CRV Ambreed and won $2000.

CRV inserted five golden straws into five AI banks - three in the North Island and two in the South Island - as distribution of semen straws started ahead of spring mating.

The promotion was part of the company's golden anniversary celebrations, recognising its 50th year.

Mike says they will put the money towards a family trip to Fiji to celebrate the end of a busy calving and mating season. The Smiths milk 1000 cows on 260 hectares at Oxford.
