A community meeting in Motueka on Wednesday evening is due to feature discussion with a Massey University professor, whose research shows a more phonics-based approach is needed to teaching literacy in schools. Parents lobbying nationwide for the change to "structured literacy", which teaches reading and writing consecutively, say phonics books should replace the "Ready to Read" books most schools use to help children learn to read. New retirement village opening in Nelson next year

After six years of work and moving 600,000 cubic metres of soil, the Coastal View Lifestyle Village in the Tahunanui Hills is scheduled for a February/March opening in 2021.

Along with the development an access road through the village, an extension of Princes Dr connecting to Waimea Rd, is expected to be open to the public by the end of November.
