Why is Wanganui District Council supporting a name change of Pakaraka for Maxwell?

Vernon Neighbourly Lead from Whanganui

I read in the 25 November edition of the Wanganui Midweek, that the Council at their 3 August meeting supported the wish of a Maori group to change the name of Maxwell to Pakaraka and has already asked the NZ Geographic Board to make the change, despite the Council being required by central Government to carry out a “required community consultation”

That was 104 days ago and today, is the first notice I have of the Council’s, “required community consultation. “Further, ” I am required to make a submission on this already sought name change within the next 26 days; by 3 December. As if that time limit is inadequate, I am instructed to make my submission via the internet to

A most unfriendly and non existant internet address, which fails to ccnnect and returns a :

"'This is a 404 error, which means you've clicked on a bad link or entered an invalid URL'"

Error message

Why has the Council taken 104 day to ask for my submission?

Why has the Council given me only 26 Days to make a submission,

Why has the Council fobbed off their requirement to seek a “required community consultation” on to the Wanganui Midweek by mentioning it in the Community Link Page?

I have an interest in opposing the name change. Do You? Why is the council

1..Asking the NZ Geographic Board to change the name before carrying out the “required community consultation”

2..Why has the Council not given us adequate time to make a submission?

3..Why has council blocked any access to information and submissions by insisting application must be made to a nonexistent internet address?

We love how creative some people are with their plant giving! This is for goodie bags for a 7 year olds party but we reckon you could borrow this wonderful idea for the Neighbours Day Aotearoa Great Plant Swap!
What a lovely gift to get and it's not just kids who love sunflowers.

ADDED BONUS: if you give your neighbours sunflower seeds you would get to enjoy their beautiful flowers too!

Have you signed up for Neighbours Day 2021 yet? There's lots of ways you can join in...check out our website to register today:

Razor blades in the walls....

Kylie Klein Nixon Reporter from Homed

Has anyone ever seen something like the image below in an older Kiwi home? Does anyone remember them from their childhood? These strange slots allowed you to rid yourself of an old razor and never think of it again...but it also meant, years down the track, that someone renovating would be in for a nasty, rusty surprise.
I'm certain I've seen something like this here in Aotearoa-NZ, but can't for the life of me recall where. It was in the back of the medicine cupboard. Let us know if you've seen, had - or have - one in your home.
