Animal Evac NZ - be prepared!

Megan from Havelock North

In the wake of the devastating Nelson fires, people with animals need to be thinking of what they would do if they had to be evacuated for whatever reason. Some of you may have seen our signage on the news.
It came to light in Nelson that many didn't have a cat carry cage or something to transport their pet bunnies and chickens in or their dog was not used to being in a crate. Most on farms were superb in either getting their stock to safety or moving them, many people worked together.
Animal Evac New Zealand Trust is the country's only dedicated animal disaster management charity. (that means that's all we are involved in, disasters! We don't rescue/re-home like other agencies do)
We are an organisation with many trained volunteers (trained in flood water safety, sheltering animals, evacuation of animals etc) that can provide emergency animal accommodation and work with traditional charities to arrange on-going support to these animals and their owners.
We are neutral, have no compliance function, and only advocate on disaster related animal welfare issues.
Our motto is Evacuate/Shelter/Reunite.

We are very keen to help educate people in what they need to have prepared in case of emergency, just like Civil Defense do with humans!

Please visit our website www.animalevac.nz... to see more information.
Our volunteers include people like Vets, vet nurses, firefighters, ex armed service personnel,..... the list goes on!

We are always looking for more volunteers, even if you don't have animals we are always looking for computer people, writers etc.!!

We are always also looking for donations!! (we are currently not Government funded)

Be prepared folks :)
