My Kind Neighbour nomination

Alan from Melville

On last Friday 11 / 10/ 2019 afternoon i went round to the school in Mountview Road thinking that would be the place to drop our local election votes. How ever it were not so i went in to the H.C.C. parking building to take our votes to drop in at the Council Office. Found where my car was parked in an almost full car park.Took my specks out of my top shirt pocket to get my parking ticket out where i always put them ".O" dear could not find it must have lost it in the Council building what am i going to do now,Need to find a parking attendent. No luck.Went to the ticket machine and standing there thinking to my self what can i do here .A very nice lady must have been between in her late 30's to early 40's She said can i help you ? Yes please and told her i must have lost my parking ticket in the Council Office. Don't worry let's see what we can do. She brought up the lost ticket notice fee of $ 20 .Said to me you are not going to pay that. Why not? just you leave it to me she inserted her credit card in to the machine and gave me a ticket to be able to get out of the parking building .Said to her how much did it cost.? Don't you worry about that i have sorted it all out Would not want to take any monery off me only cash i had on me were a 5 dollar note which she did not want to take off me but i insisted . Thanked her very much indeed both went back to our cars and waved to each other, When i inserted my card she gave me it only cost $ 4 , I went home just kicking my self about the loose of my ticket and thinking of such a perfect stranger who came to my rescue bless her . ( I Did not ask her name ) If the Lady is on Neighbourly she is going to have as good laugh , When i were taking my pullover off at home my first ticket fell on the floor. time 15:41:49 will keep it to remind me not that i would ever forget such a lovely Lady stranger who came to my rescue . Kind Regards. Alan.F.

Say goodbye to tyre waste

Tyrewise

About 40% of the 6.5 million tyres Kiwis use every year are recycled, repurposed, or used as tyre-derived fuel. But the rest end up in landfills, stockpiled or dumped.

The good news is now there’s an easy solution to all that tyre waste. It’s called Tyrewise and is New Zealand’s first national tyre recycling scheme.

Tyrewise ensures that tyres in Aotearoa New Zealand are recycled or repurposed properly, saving millions from going to the landfill.

Find out more about the scheme online.

What's your favourite piece of Waikato history?

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

Car parks inspired a milking shed design that took off around the world and became a piece of Waikato District history.

A hundred-year-old church and gravestones from the 1880s will also feature as the district turns the spotlight on its past for its first Heritage Day on April 20.
