First-term councillor Marian Hobbs, a former Labour cabinet minister, has just been elected as chairwoman of the Otago Regional Council, and former National MP Michael Laws is now deputy chairman.
Hobbs says she does not agree with moves to build a "palatial" Dunedin headquarters, but supports offices in places such as Cromwell. And Laws says the Dunedin-centric nature of the regional council needs to de-volve towards the provinces where "we are doing the work".
What do you think? Should the council be centred in Dunedin or in the regions?

● wedding planning
● having a child
● buying a house
● writing a will

The Cromwell Half Marathon, 10k and Teams Relay that will be run this Sunday, 27 October, will be the first official event to make use of the new walk and cycle track that is being built along the shores of Lake Dunstan.
“The newly-built track will be great for our runners and hopefully contribute to better times all round,” says organiser Terry Davis from Highland Events.
As the track will not be completed all the way into the Cromwell Heritage Precinct, the route for the half marathon needed to be changed a for this year’s run. Both the half marathon and the 10k will start at the Alpha Street Reserve as in previous years with the 10k turn-around point being at the Lowburn Inlet. The half marathon route will continue along the new track, crossing the footbridge in Pisa Moorings that used to be the first turnaround point and go for another 1.6 km towards to new turnaround point. The finish line will remain at Alpha Street Reserve.
Online entries will close on Wednesday, 23 October at 8pm, but runners can still enter on the day from 8:30 am. Starting time for all routes is 10am sharp.
