Covid-19: Two cases in Christchurch, one may have been infectious in city for almost a fortnight

Nicole Mathewson Reporter from The Press

UPDATED 4.35pm: Two Covid-19 cases have been discovered in Christchurch, including one who could have been infectious in the community for just under two weeks, Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Health said it became aware of the two positive cases from the same household in Christchurch on Wednesday evening.

One had travelled from Auckland on October 15 and infected someone they live with. The pair, who are family members, are both unvaccinated.

Hipkins said the two cases had not been scanning QR codes regularly, but were being co-operative with health authorities.

Christchurch will stay in alert level 2 and there are no major exposure events linked to the cases.

Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield confirmed one of the cases was a truck driver who had driven around Christchurch and north of the city.

Thirteen locations of interest in Christchurch have been identified as of 4.35pm. Click here to see where they are.

More updates will be posted on Stuff as soon as they're available.
