DIY Security Camera for your home

Robert from Bryndwr

Hi ....
I received a number of unexpected responses to my post about home security cameras and intrusion alarms.
My emailed reply to one particular enquiry is as below....
I don't know if you're comfortable with the electronics, computer and technical jargon that goes with internet configuration and addressing.
I'm a 'Ham' Radio (amateur radio) operator and like poking around in that kind of stuff but, right now, I'm busy trying to teach myself some new knowledge and skills associated with these security cameras.

I'm trying to learn as much as I can just out of an obsessive technical curiosity and, purely as a cerebral challenge, in figuring out how to make them upload video directly to either to my mobile phone or to the internet.

Having said that, I needed to make the point, I am NOT a professional or even a whizz-kid at it. Just a very new learner as of a couple of months ago.

If you breeze through either www.ebay.com... or www.alibaba.com... or www.aliexpress.com... you'll notice that there are several different types of security cameras:

Some will WiFi directly to call and send to your mobile phone (4G).

Others will, after configuration of the setup software, talk (WiFi) to your PC/laptop through an internal TCP/IP local/home network via a home video recorder. That video recorder will connect to your very own local in-house network and, thence, to the 'cloud' or just to your PC/laptop. Other possibilities can be configured.....

I have recently set up a couple of private internet web sites one of which is hosted for me on a USA web host server. (zl2rob.org) My eventual objective is to have that, or several other of my experimental house security experimental cameras, automatically record, upload and store video on the internet to one of those web sites. That is in preference to using any of the usual commercial 'cloud' servers like 'Dropbox' or others..

That means, when I finally figure out all the configuration software and networking variables, I can then log into my own internet website and browse whatever video the camera/s will have uploaded.

As a hobbyist, I'm NOT selling as a dealer, any cameras, solar battery charging or other equipment. I do have a brand new, but tested, solar powered 4G camera that uploads, records and sends alarms direct via the 4G phone network and then on to my own cellphone. You're welcome to come see a demo of what those particular types of security cameras do.

My preference now is to learn to use the internet (IP addresses) type of camera rather than sending directly to my cellphone because I already have a new and partially configured web site to collect the camera video.

I guess that not very many DIY home users would be sufficiently useful in setting up an IP address networking to have the cameras talk, via a home based networking video recorder, to the internet and on to a particular personal web site.

My home phone is 03 351 5162. I live in Bryndwr/Fendalton area.

Kind regards,
Robert.

Baby knitting

Lesley from Bishopdale

At night while watching TV I knit baby cardys, bootees, beanies and have a couple of bags that I would like to donate to a worthy cause. It is all wool and would range from newborn to about 6mths old.
Would anyone have any suggestions for a place that would appreciate it.
