Check your hot water cylinder temperature!

Kerry from A1 Plumbing

A1 Plumbing would just like to remind all our neighbours that having your hot water cylinder set to the right temperature is critical for the health of your family. The thermostat on the cylinder needs to be set at a minimum of 60 degrees celsius to kill off any legionella that could grow in the water. We often find cylinders set to 50 degrees, because 60 feels so hot! To achieve this safely and legally a tempering valve must be installed on the cylinder which allows the water temperature inside the cylinder to stay above 60, but tempered to 55 or less at the taps... depending on how you like it.
If youre checking your thermostat dont forget to switch off the power before you open up the element box, as the wires in there are live! If in doubt, call a plumber to check!
