Give a little Christmas love

AMI Hornby

Want to help the families affected by the recent quakes? We’re helping collect donations for the Kaiapoi Christmas Carnival this weekend, and you can too.

A number of quake-affected families from Culverden, Waiau, Scargill, Kaikoura and all in between will be taken on a day out to the Kaiapoi Christmas Carnival this Saturday 3rd December, where they’ll receive a free lunch and a community-donated gift for the kids.

We’d love you to donate gifts for these children, and six of our AMI stores will be open to receive your generous donations. You can drop them into any of the below stores before 5pm this Friday 2nd December:
Kaiapoi
Rangiora
Papanui
Sydenham
Hornby
Riccarton

Our staff have volunteered to sort and wrap these gifts after hours, and our Kaiapoi team will be there on the day helping out. Aimee our fire truck will also be getting in on the action, giving Santa a ride so he can deliver the gifts.

Your help is greatly appreciated and there’s nothing better than putting smiles on children’s faces at Christmas.

AMI Regional manager Gary Rennie says, the idea behind the initiative is to have a “pressure-free day out” so families could take their minds off the troubles and stress affecting them and their home towns.

About the carnival:

From 12pm Saturday 3rd December at Murphy Park, Kaiapoi, you can come along and see performances, browse food and craft stalls, ride the amusement rides and see Santa himself. The carnival is free to attend and great fun for the whole family. The Santa parade will commence at 2pm, with entertainment running into the evening.

We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions about the donations or the Kaiapoi Christmas Carnival, please email: marketing@ami.co.nz

Christchurch is New Zealand's second city, deal with it

Anna Williams Reporter from The Press

There's an enduring belief that Wellington is our second-largest city. We must dispel that myth, reporter Charlie Mitchell says.
Do you think Christchurch should officially be named as New Zealand's second city or should Wellington retain its title?
