Neighbourly's Good News
Although all of us local Christchurch folks have experienced a considerable amount in hardship over several years, (i.e. major Canterbury Earthquakes, Terrorist Mosque Attacks and associated Lockdowns; via various Pandemic Health & Safety related processes etc.) I was so surprised to learn something much more pleasant just prior to New Years day 2021. As this was in receiving notification for being publicly listed within the New Years Honours for services to Mental Health. Therefore on the 3rd May, 2021 am being presented (by the Governor General of NZ) with a "New Zealand Order of Merit" on behalf of the Queen. Although I wasn't expected in receiving this special award it appears all the hard work (which has been mostly voluntarily and for over 30 years) i have completed in assisting this highly challenging health related issue is being officially acknowledged. However and finally would like to sincerely thank everyone involved, especially certain special folks whom gave me an opportunity (including encouragement and support) to continue in completing all of this work. Regards, Gary L Watts MNZM

Greeting customers costs nothing
I went to New World Bishopdale this am. Deli dept. the young person just looked at me at the counter, no acknowledgement at all. I asked what I wanted and couldn’t resisting saying, how’s your day going? Staff need training like at Mitre 10. Acknowledge the customer!! Hello, what can I help you with today and smile? Not a lot to ask but younger people seem to lack basic greeting manners. Have you found this? Maybe I’m just expecting too much!!
Kiwirail land rental
We pay KiwiRail a rental fee for the lease of a strip of land alongside the railway line. We use the land for vegetable gardening. However we have just received a letter doubling the rental fee plus a charge to draw up the new lease. Has anyone else been effected by this? KiwiRail do nothing with the land on the other side of the fence and the grass grows lank.
