Vintage computer needs a good home

Donald from Swannanoa - Ohoka

I'm cleaning up my property as it's on the market. I have a TRS-80 model 1 that I bought in early 1980 when I was working in the UK. I also have the Radio Shack cassette recorder that was used to save data. I've often used the cassette recorder as a prop for technology and careers talks - what may be ahead of us and where we have come from - I gave whilst working in Brunei from 1996 to 2018.

Is there such a thing as a technology museum in Canterbury, or a collector that anyone can recommend, that may want the computer (free). It's not fully functional as the rats chewed a cable whilst I was overseas.

Also looking for a home are the first two years of the Bits & Bytes magazine. The first issue went on sale on October 1982. (The first issue was free so technically the first one that a subscriber had to pay for was issue 2 the following month.)

As an aside, the problem with cleaning up is that I've now spent a number of hours re-reading through some of the magazines... my generation is experiencing a massive change in computing and societal connectivity. For example, my TRS-80 ran on just 16kB of memory! The evolution of flight was a leading aspect of technology that affected my mum's generation. She saw Kingsford Smith fly into Christchurch on his 1928 trans-Tasman crossing when she was young, and later in life was able to fly to the UK in a 747. I do wonder what my children and grandchildren will experience.

Kiwirail land rental

Jenny from Redwood

We pay KiwiRail a rental fee for the lease of a strip of land alongside the railway line. We use the land for vegetable gardening. However we have just received a letter doubling the rental fee plus a charge to draw up the new lease. Has anyone else been effected by this? KiwiRail do nothing with the land on the other side of the fence and the grass grows lank.
