What has your experience with Christchurch City Council been like?

In a bid to overturn a scathing approval rating, Christchurch City Council is making moves to create a new residents’ forum.

The council says it wants people to feel they are being listened to and their views are respected. It also wants more people to trust the council’s decision-making process.

In May, the council released its annual residents’ survey, showing just half of the city’s residents were satisfied with the services it provided – down from 62 per cent last year.

Some 23 per cent of respondents were dissatisfied with council's performance and 27 per cent were neutral. It is the lowest result since 2007, when the question was first asked as part of the survey.

New $5 million bridge for Heathcote River at Brougham St/SH76

KiwiRail is replacing a double track bridge across the Heathcote River next to Brougham Street "as it has come to the end of its useful life."

The approximate cost of the new bridge is $5 million. The project started in August 2020 and will run to July 2021.

"KiwiRail is committed to raising the standard of our rail lines, bridges and tunnels across the country. This will enable KiwiRail to offer better and more reliable train services for our customers, and move more of New Zealand’s growing freight task onto rail."

Beckenham house sells for $598,000

A large property on Norwood Street in Beckenham has sold for $598,000. At 187sqm the property at No. 27 is 35 per cent bigger than the median in Beckenham of 139sqm.

Its capital valuation is $610,000, compared with the Beckenham median of $530,000. The sale was finalised on July 27, 2020.
