Crime in Christchurch - be vigilant

Chris from Edgeware

Hi all, a would-be thief just got served justice here in Edgeware - this individual decided he wanted to steal some of my neighbours things from a lock-up shed at the back of our block of units, but another neighbour saw the thief heading up the driveway, alerted the shed owner, and when the thief was caught red-handed and apprehended, called the police. The thief used bolt cutters to crack the shed open and had bagged a bunch of things then jumped on my neighbours e-bike to try and get away - the owner apprehended him in possession of the stolen goods, and several of us stood over the guy until the police arrived to arrest him only a few minutes later.

A successful outcome which shows what happens when neighbours look out for one another - police responded very quickly too. However crime like this is rampant across the city - please be vigilant, and if you see suspicious people loitering around alert your neighbours and together be visible and make sure the criminals know you can see them - the last thing criminals want is people alert and aware of their activities and ready to respond if they are caught committing a crime. If they are caught committing a crime, as this guy was, call the police and if safe to do so apprehend the criminal - once you have apprehended someone the police *will* respond with utmost urgency.
