New Zealand Red Cross - Join your local Area Council as an Area Councillor

New Zealand Red Cross Midland from New Zealand Red Cross - Midland Area

We are seeking applicants to put their name forward in the upcoming New Zealand Red Cross Area Council election 2025. The nomination period for the election is from 15th February to 17th March.

Applications from individuals who are joining the Red Cross for the first time are open until 10th of March.

Once you submit your application, we will support you through the due diligence processes and other steps. Information about the election processes can be found at: redcross.org.nz/area-elections.

The Area Councillor contributes to the work of the Area Council to deliver positive and stable leadership that strengthens and protects New Zealand Red Cross in the Area.

Providing support to the Area Chair, the Area Councillor acts as a key connector to empower Branches, Groups, and members (including those who volunteer their time) to plan and deliver activities in alignment with New Zealand Red Cross’ strategic priorities.

Modelling New Zealand Red Cross values and the Fundamental Principles, the Area Councillor plays a pivotal role in fostering collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, taking the initiative to drive a one-team culture that encourages inclusion, connectedness and diverse member participation that fulfils the mission of New Zealand Red Cross.

The Area Councillor nurtures and sustains strong membership, provides sound advice, identifies ideas for improvement to support the development of members and services across the Area.

The Area Councillor strives to champion the youth voice through inspiring leadership that supports and develops young humanitarians, ensuring that New Zealand Red Cross is well placed and strengthened for the future.

Hillcrest alumni launch Fund for their school

When the Waikato Symphony Orchestra played at the recent Hamilton Arts Festival, roughly a third of the musicians on stage were former students of one local secondary school.

Hillcrest High School - Te Kura Tuarua o Tihipuke is well known for producing such artistic graduates, reflecting its holistic approach to education, which encourages students to try things out and become successful all-rounders. The second largest school in the city, with 1800 students and 79 ethnicities, its goal is “to educate and develop young people of whom our community will be proud”.

Brian Winter enjoyed his schooling experience there and is involved with the Hillcrest High School Alumni and Community Society, which has now established a philanthropic investment fund at Momentum Waikato – the Hillcrest High School Future Fund.
