Something I love about St Heliers...
FORESTS IN AUCKLAND? Yes, it's true! Kohi Forest is accessible from my backyard, what a treasure. Kohimarama forest is a rare ancient ecosystem, it’s Tāmaki Makaurau gem that’s for sure! I recommend an early morning visit to truly experience the magic, the wetland, newly planted natives and steep gully with a stream…it’s a natural haven full of chatty Tui's, cheeky Pīwakawaka (Fantail), cooing Doves, Ruru (morepork), proud nesting Kererū!, and keep your eyes peeled for Kaka. (really!)
This precious ecosystem was saved from intensive development, with the help of conservationists and the efforts of local neighbours.
Melanesian Mission Trust is working with our local community groups to restore and preserve it! How cool is that! If you’re in the hood, come and see all the work that’s been completed already and the newly planted natives making their new home a more incredible space

Poll: Does the building consent process need to change?
We definitely need homes that are fit to live in but there are often frustrations when it comes to getting consent to modify your own home.
