Aucklanders warned to brace for tornadoes, thunderstorms and power cuts

Brittany Keogh Reporter from East & Bays Courier

Hi neighbours, Vector has warned Auckland residents to prepare for tornadoes, thunderstorms and gales that could lead to power cuts during the next 24 to 36 hours. The company says people should charge their devices and power banks, tie down objects that could be swept up in strong winds, such as BBQs or trampolines, and make sure they had a torch and spare batteries handy, as well as alternative fuel for cooking.

The Team from Citizens Advice Bureau Eastern Bays

Sign our petition to end digital exclusion.

Citizens Advice Bureau Nga Pou Whakawhirinaki o Aotearoa is collecting signatures on Action Station.

Have you or someone you know ever tried to fill out a government form online?
How about doing that on your phone? And uploading documents to it?
What if your internet connection was limited? Or English wasn’t your first language? Or you were vision impaired? Or didn't have a credit card?

What if you needed help to understand, and what you really wanted was someone to talk to?

Consider the frustration this causes you and what it looks like when you’re made further vulnerable as you stare into the digital divide.

The digital-only or digital-first approach being embraced by government agencies is excluding some of Aotearoa’s most vulnerable people and communities. This is unacceptable. We want to see people’s needs put at the centre of public services and are asking candidates seeking election as our representatives in Parliament, to pledge to ensuring this is the case.

Jody Bews-Hair from Eastern Athletics & Harriers Club

Our first Club night is Tues 27 October, and registrations are open now to join Eastern Athletics Club. We have a fun learning programme for juniors (3-6) with the basics of run, jump and throw, and our seniors (7-14) have expert coaching. The focus is on taking part and personal bests, and the keener young athletes can also participate in competitions and ribbon days representing Eastern. We'd love to welcome more families to our friendly Club!
