Better Lighting for Better Life

Michael from Bright Mirror Solution

Dear Neighbours,
I would like to open this discussion about the influence of light on our daily life, mood and health.
We are all thinking and talking a lot about nutrition: sugar/carbohydrates reduction, food enriched in fibres, proteins, water, minerals, vitamins... What do we know about the light and its role in human homeostasis. It is absolutely clear that natural, sun light is crucial for our existence. I am pretty sure that most of you know that natural sunshine, in form of UV, induces active vitamin D production in the skin; however the extensive exposure to UV is dangerous and can cause from skin burns to skin cancer. One of the reasons of higher level of respiratory infections in winter is lover level of vitamin D because of reduced exposure to sunshine. The levels of depressions in winter period and in naturally dark countries is higher. There are more evidences showing directly and indirectly that light is very important in our life which I will demonstrate later whether this discussion will bring more interest on the board.
However, how about the artificial lighting we use daily in our offices, work places, homes, indoor public places and our streets at darkness!? Most of us in modern life influenced more by artificial lighting than natural sunshine. You would imagine that it is probably not ideal and better to enjoy more sunshine. However, todays reality makes everything more artificial and our lighting is part of it.
What do we know about artificial lighting?
For decades we knew not much about artificial lighting and used it basically in only two modes on and off. Later more technology became to be available. The latest technology brought Lighting Emitting Diode (LED).
How LED works, what advantage and disadvantage this technology provide with our lighting, what new features are available with LED and how we can use them making our life brighter and better, how to choose lighting for our work place and homes, and more ... I would like to discuss about in the future posts here.

Looking forward to hearing from you and discuss it further
Best regards
Michael Steiner
