Just something to think about

Mayur from Howick

Hi neighbours,

This is not a rant/complaint but something out of reflection after an incident few days ago. Not sure if it will change anyone's perception but probably give us something to atleast think about.

I have a sick friend who is not a NZ resident. I was trying to raise funds for his treatment on social media platforms including neighbourly. Well, I was able to do so using my own savings and my personal network in the end but during the course of this, I was outrightly called worst scum on the earth and a scammer trying to use mental health as a reason for scamming people.

These guys did not even try to get into details including asking me about the details of the guy, doctors prescriptions, bills etc and just judged me and if I may ask on what basis?

Not denying that people do use others' emotions to scam them but has the world actually reached a point that we lack empathy by default and judge people straightaway. May be it affected me a lot coz I am empathetic by nature, even towards the strangers and this was the first time I tried raising funds through social media platforms.

I don't expect anything from this post more than just force everyone to reflect on our thought process.

Cheers!

Mayur

Lest we forget...

On this ANZAC Day, let's take a moment to remember and honor the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.

Tell us who are you honouring today. Whether it's a story from the battlefield or a memory of a family member who fought in the war, we'd love you to share your stories below.
