Dangerous thinking

David from Glen Eden

It is more than disappointing to hear that people are refusing covid-19 tests, are breaking out of isolation, and ignoring isolation and tracing needs. Such a lack of intelligence is amazing. It is often fuelled by proponents of putting economy first and claims we have nailed the virus. Such people are dangerous, misinformed, likely selfish and should not be heeded. This virus is not eradicated and if those dangerous people have their way, possibly driven only by political bigotry, we can easily end up like Melbourne, USA, and others. Just know where their economy is going, their death rate, their unemployment and KNOW that we are not immune. If the rest of the world had maintained the same vigilance and success as NZ then our major economic support would be operational by now. Economies will suffer and this government is doing all that is possible to create jobs, support people, and ease the misery of the most vulnerable. The worry about our borrowing may be warranted but bear in mind that most countries have far higher levels of borrowing even before covid-19 than we forecast after it. The National government policies certainly can't avoid borrowing any less, their objectives will be to create jobs just like this government and there is little they can do that is much different. The worst thing we can do is open borders too early, ignore the needs of isolation, tracing and testing and be fooled into thinking we are out of danger. So far we have managed extremely well. Lets not waste what we've gained while the world catches up. If we're all dead our economy won't be fun at all. A mostly recovered economy will only follow when covid-19 is first properly tamed worldwide.
