NZEI ECE Pay Equity Campaign
Any ECE teachers or workers in the area? We NEED your stories for NZEI’s ECE pay equity campaign!
As you probably already know, despite being some of the most important people in young children’s lives, early childhood teachers and workers are some of the lowest paid people in NZ. We nurture children’s learning at the most crucial time in their education, yet we are undervalued and underpaid, just because our work has historically been done by women.
The movement for pay equity is about righting this wrong. Here is a link to a video that provides a useful overview of what is meant by ‘pay equity’ and what the campaign will involve:
youtu.be...
We’re collecting evidence for our claim at the moment and we need your stories.
Teacher’s, just a couple of sentences about why you think pay equity is important, what a difference it would make to you, and what you love about working in ECE, is all that’s needed.
And supporters, what difference have early childhood teachers made in the lives of you and your children. Why do you think they deserve pay equity?
Share your stories in the comments or PM me and I’ll forward them to NZEI. Alternatively, email them directly to Rebecca Matthews-Heron, part of NZEI’s Pay Equity Team at: rebecca.matthews-heron@nzei.org.nz. Remember, every voice counts. We can’t do this unless we band together.
And if you haven’t already, PLEASE join us in making this historic claim for pay equity and sign up to the campaign: campaigns.nzei.org.nz....
Poll: Does the building consent process need to change?
We definitely need homes that are fit to live in but there are often frustrations when it comes to getting consent to modify your own home.
Do you think changes need made to the current process for building consent? Share your thoughts below.
