Kelmarna Garden steers live to see another day

Mandy Te Reporter from Central Leader

Hi neighbours, three steers have been saved and will move to a sanctuary in North Canterbury. The animals had been living at Kelmarna Gardens and were going to be slaughtered, which was mentioned on Neighbourly. The community rallied against this and a meat processor employee noticed the steers were important to the community and did not kill them.

Please add NP if you do not wish for your comment to be in print.

How are you at recycling?

Kendall Hutt Reporter from Central Leader

Hi neighbours. Our bad recycling habits have seen 32,300 tonnes of rubbish find its way into recycling bins. This then had to be diverted to landfill, costing us half a million dollars over the last two financial years. How are you at recycling? What rubbish items have you mistakenly thrown in the recycling bin?

Help us fill hungry tummies around Aotearoa

Julia de Ruiter from The Salvation Army NZ

With chilly days and nights just around the corner, winter is a really tough time for some of our most vulnerable New Zealanders. Through these colder months, we see a consistently high demand for food assistance which stretches supplies and resources in our foodbank hubs.

You can help by donating a Winter Bundle today. We've teamed up with Countdown to select a range of useful items that we know our foodbanks need.

Help us fill hungry tummies around the country today. Donate online or pop a food donation into the specially marked purple bins in Countdown stores throughout June.
