The old saying about colds and flu, "three days coming, three days suffering and three days going" would support a 10 days sick leave. That also tends to fit better with covid-19 to worry about. And of course employers will squeal but possibly without real justification. If a worker catches flu or other virus then goes to work and infects five or ten others then it is clearly better if sick leave was used promptly. There is nothing worse than the stalwart worker who means well going to work sneezing over everyone else. I think perhaps a doctors certificate may be wise for longer than four days off. Then of course we have to sadly accept the few who will misuse their sick leave, something no decent person would ever do. I would go further, if a person taking sick leave was seen at the footy match then they should expect to be fired. It is dishonest and we don't like to employ such people.

Auckland Council and a range of national organisations have renewed calls to ban the private use and sale of fireworks after a parliamentary select committee decided in August to leave regulations unchanged.
Some people will be celebrating Guy Fawkes Day, held to commemorate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605.
