Last chance for landlords to make reform bill submissions

Brigitte from Remuera

Hi Neighbours and fellow Property Investors,
I know this will affect many of you so please do have your say!!
There are only 4 days left to make submissions to the Government on their consultation document for the in-depth reform of the Residential Tenancy Act. Please do not be complacent as some of the changes proposed are extremely significant and far reaching.

All residential landlords are encouraged to get their opinions heard. However, this can be a tedious and even daunting task for some so I am happy to provide a few documents to assist.
Understand what it is all about: Q & A explaining the (government) rationale for the proposed key changes.
Individual submissions can be made by filling in the online survey. www.research.net...

You do not have to answer all questions, only the ones relevant to you. The New Zealand Property Investors Association has put together a guide I've attached with considered proposed answers.

Time poor but you have a view on key matters? Do not despair. I also have a word doc template I can send you to customise your answers and send by email to RTAreform@mbie.govt.nzto which I would be happy to send to you. Just get in touch at brigitte@catalise.co.nz or look at our neighbourly Catalise business page which has all the documents attached.

At this stage the Government is collecting feedback, not everything will be implemented. However, actively managing a rental property will be more critical than ever before as significant changes will occur as early as 2020.

Sounds complex? Well, it can be. We stay on top of the game to advise our clients in their best interests within the scope of the law and avoid any penalties for non compliance that may arise. Rental property investing will remain. We are property investors too and we don’t intend to leave the market. Doing it right though, will be important and we can assist you with this process at anytime.
We believe prevention is much better than a corrective action so don’t wait until it’s too late to have your say. Brigitte M: 021318928

Chicken Gizzards!

Sunita from Royal Oak

Kia ora Neighbours

I purchased a pack of chicken gizzards from Pak n Save, Royal Oak on Fri 19 April 2024. The net weight of the packet was 1.280Kg. Up on cleaning the gizzards before cooking, I removed 330g of inedible portions. I consider this as fraud because the store charged me for 1.280Kg of gizzards but sold me 950g for the price (photos attached-inedible bits circled in blue).

I took up with matter with Pak n Save, Regional Office and they forwarded my complaint to the Royal Oak store for investigation. The Royal Oak Pak n Save have advised that they are discussing the matter with their supplier, Tegel. During the communication, it was stated by the store that in the week beginning 15 April, they sold 104 packets of chicken gizzards and have not had any other complaints.

If anyone else has purchased Chicken Gizzard from Pak n Save, Royal Oak, have discovered inedible bits in the packet and think that this practice needs to stop as it is resulting in customers being overcharged, please raise the issue with Pak n Save, Royal Oak.

Thank you!
Sunita
