Curtain lifts then falls on plans for massive Wānaka film studio

A veil of secrecy has been thrown over plans for a massive film studio near Wānaka, with comprehensive planning documents disappearing from a government website.

Silverlight Studios applied to have the project fast-tracked through a resource consent process established by the Government to nurture projects that could boost employment and post-Covid economic recovery.

It is standard practice for application documents received under the process to be published once the application is deemed complete.

On Tuesday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined the film studio application was complete and could be considered by a panel.

However, by Thursday the EPA pulled all the documents from its website, despite the application progressing. Continue reading here.
