Travel

Bruce from Whakatane District

We are getting really concerned. We had to travel to Hawaii because of our mum being only given weeks to live. After waiting and waiting to hear from MIQ about our waiver application for the $4000.00 we may have to pay in managed isolation on return to NZ, we have heard nothing so we decided to travel anyway a week later than we wanted to. (We would have liked to hear from them before we left NZ to enable us to plan for this crippling cost) During the wait though she died unfortunately.
We had to get pre Covid 19 tests to enter Hawaii at our cost and then further tests here in Hawaii to go to Maui to avoid Quarantine on both islands. We find everyone here is so careful about distancing and wearing masks. When we get to Maui we will not be quarantined, but will have a safe house to reside in none the less.
Our major concern is, when we return to NZ we will be mixed with some people from other countries that may have Covid 19 endangering us during the 14 days quarantine at a hotel. We could more safely get off the plane (which have really good safety measures in place while flying) collect our car and drive straight home. Over here we have been able to keep safe from infection but I don't think that placing us into isolation for 14 days will keep us safe after hearing some of the problems that managed isolation hotels are experiencing and its seems to us that this is a good place to get infected. What do you think?

Say goodbye to tyre waste

Tyrewise

About 40% of the 6.5 million tyres Kiwis use every year are recycled, repurposed, or used as tyre-derived fuel. But the rest end up in landfills, stockpiled or dumped.

The good news is now there’s an easy solution to all that tyre waste. It’s called Tyrewise and is New Zealand’s first national tyre recycling scheme.

Tyrewise ensures that tyres in Aotearoa New Zealand are recycled or repurposed properly, saving millions from going to the landfill.

Find out more about the scheme online.
