Rates rebate for 2019/2020

Rob Stockley for Carterton District Council

Rates is a hot topic at the moment. Rates are necessary but they are expensive and some residents are struggling. This is especially so for residents on low and/or fixed incomes. I was chatting with a friend today about what could be done to help those who are hurting. He asked, "does everyone know about how to claim the rates rebate from the Department of Internal Affairs?" It seems like a simple enough process.

It looks as though the Department of Internal Affairs are in the process of switching over from last year's rebate to this year's rebate. So there's a bit of old news there. Good news is that all the application forms are updated and ready for this year.

www.govt.nz...

I don't think it should be very difficult for us as a community to put the word out. Some residents may need help with forms - that's easy. We also need to check on family and neighbours to make sure they know. Come on Carterton, lets make sure we as a community get the most we can out of this opportunity.
