Standing for Carterton District Council

Rob Stockley for Carterton District Council

My name is Rob Stockley. I'm a husband, a father to two girls, a self employed electrician, and I intend to stand for Carterton District Council in October 2019.

My wife Liz and I moved to Carterton with our girls, Izzy and Katy, in 2017. We've found Carterton to be a wonderful inclusive community. People smile at one another in the street. People ask, "how are you" then take the time to wait for your response.

I am a member of Rotary Club of Carterton. Through club meetings and events I've met dozens of kind hearted people doing great things to better our community. Selfless acts of so many is very humbling.

In standing for Council I want to grow Carterton in a way that maintains all these wonderful characteristics that make us what we are. Regional growth is inevitable as more people discover the gem that is Wairarapa. With well thought out planning and robust long term stategies we can control our future.

Today I am a self-employed electrician. My industry is strongly legislated and bound by process. I understand how governance works. Before becoming an electrician, I served 18 years in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Retiring as a flight commander in the rank of Squadron Leader, I have seen many examples of leadership. Carterton is not a wealthy district. We must ensure that the wheels of Council turn efficiently with clear objectives so as not to waste our limited resources. We must focus on community to make sure that no-one gets left behind.

I intend to use Neighbourly and Facebook to share information about local government elections and to reach out to members of the community that I may not otherwise meet.

You might see me in Page42 Cafe or walking our dogs at Sparks Park in the mornings. Please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I look forward to serving you.

Rob
