My Resene Upcycling Award entry

Suzanne from Pirongia - Karamu

We have re purposed an old broken rimu tool storage cupboard and made it into a beautifully unique bathroom vanity. Initially we were going to dump the cupboard but realised the quality of the wood consequently we only have a couple of 'before' photos of the cupboard. We used the tongue and groove and some of the old framing from the original cupboard, stripped the paint off sanded each board and built a vanity. The doors are painted using Triple Masala - Resene paint and the sides and top have been given several coats of Resene semigloss polyurethane. We added hinges and painted them black. The result was so lovely that we used the rest of the old cupboard and made a second vanity for our main bathroom.

What's your favourite piece of Waikato history?

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

Car parks inspired a milking shed design that took off around the world and became a piece of Waikato District history.

A hundred-year-old church and gravestones from the 1880s will also feature as the district turns the spotlight on its past for its first Heritage Day on April 20.
